2007 Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon - Rites of Passage

Tonight, my oldest daughter (33) requested to taste red wine. Heretofore, her tastes leaned toward dry to semi-dry whites. Of course, I enjoyed many of those vintages with her. This evening at dinner; however, was different!

I had two bottles of 2007 Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon that I had been holding for approximately 4 years and decided that would be of such a nature needed to introduce her the world of reds. I was on the mark! Her first remarks were, "This is good. This is very smooth!" We had a winner!

On the nose, there was the unmistakable aroma of ripe, black currant. It was bright and vibrant! The fruit followed on the palate accompanied by white pepper and a hint of anise. The fruit, acidity, and tannins were well integrated to produce a smooth experience on the palate. The finish was not as long as I would have preferred, but it was silky smooth with notes of dark chocolate and coffee.

This was a wonderful evening enjoyed by all. And, I am one proud Dad to have introduced my oldest to the world of red wine!
