2007 Zenato - Valpolicella Superiore Ripassa
The wine was a beautiful, dark garnet in glass with inviting aromas of black cherry, candied orange, cola, and herbs on the nose. On the palate, I was pleased with the nicely integrated fruit and acidity. The tannins were round and plush, yielding a velvety mouthfeel. As for the finish, it was smooth and long with notes of coffee and anise. The wine is most certainly approachable now, but will continue to benefit from a few more years in the bottle.

2009 Concha y Toro - Don Melchor
This is one of my favorite Chilean Cabs! It is so aromatic! The nose is defined by leather and then a burst of cherry cola. On the palate, you have all the right elements: rich dark fruit, balanced acidity, and round tannins. The finish is delightfully long! I enjoyed this with mild Cheddar. This nicely structured Cab will drink well for 5-6 years, if not longer.

2011 Seghesio Family - Zinfandel Old Vines
This is a very aromatic wine that is inky purple in the glass. Bright red cherry dominates the nose, but one will also find the scent of leather and an intriguing herbal quality. The latter was reminiscent of rosemary. There are also notes of rose petal and cola after some time in the glass. Plum and white pepper rounded out the palate, accompanied by nicely refined tannins and just the right balance of acidity. The finish was smooth and long. The wine should drink well for the next 4-5 years.
