Six Degrees - Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2009 was not as expressive as the 2006 or 2007. The color was dark purple, which inspired some hope for a memorable wine. The nose; however, was subdued. There were floral and some fruity notes, blackberry jam, perhaps. The palate was unremarkable and the finish was short-lived. Time will not rescue this wine.
Zind-Humbrecht - Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl
This is another beauty from the Alsace wine growing region of France. Medium gold in the glass. It is decidedly sweet with 62 grams/liter of residual sweetness; however, the level of acidity brings a delicate balance to this wine. The nose is expressive with lychee, grapefruit, wet stones, and a subtle spiciness. The sweetness and citrus are nicely tamed by the acidity. And, there is a wonderful persistence of sweet grapefruit on a smooth, lingering finish. An absolute delight after an evening meal!
Zind-Humbrecht - (Tokay) Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal VT
Beautifully golden in the glass with enticing honey, citrus, and mineral scents on the nose. With 72 grams/liter of residual sweetness, one would expect a syrupy thick and sweet wine; however that was not the case. There was unmistakable sweetness, but it was appropriately tempered with the wine's minerality and acidity. This was nicely balanced with notes of honey and green tea. The finish was silky smooth and long with minerals and honey. So glad to share this with my daughter!
