2001
Pine Ridge - Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District
Big and brooding - great bottle absolutely singing!
1997
Banfi - Brunello di Montalcino
A bit dried. Just a smidge past its prime. Smooth - lots of dried dark fruit. Great balance, a bit lighter than I would have liked, but it is a bit old.
1995
Fonseca - Guimaraens Vintage Port
Meeh...good but not great to me. For me, a good port needs more "gas" and less "jam". Which means a tawny port. Now THOSE are great...
This was ok. I don't think I would spend the money for true vintage port given this showing. This is a single vineyard, single vintage port. It's about the next bestest thing to a vintage port you can get.
Had some bright fruit with licorice. Can't remember much else, except a tawny port goes with a cigar much better. Too cloying. Maybe needs more time...
2005
Caravan - Cabernet Sauvignon
I have consistently been impressed by the Caravan label. I think I acquired most of these for about $22 per bottle. It's a really good wine that can improve with age - getting a decent balance of bold cab, elegance, and earth.
For the money this is a great bottle consistently.
2006
Pride Mountain - Merlot Napa/Sonoma (Sonoma/Napa)
Love Pride's stuff...this couldn't go down fast enough. Elegant but big.
