2002
Stags' Leap Winery - Petite Syrah
Nicely aged at this point. Still quite dark in color, though not inky as it was in its youth. Toned down a bit, this wine was great for drinking alone, and maybe not as suited to a thick piece of beef as it would have been five years ago. Not huge, but still complex. Plums and vanilla predominate, with a touch of wood in the finish. Short finish, but concentrated.
1996
La Jota - Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain (Selection)
Drinking extremely well. Needed about 2 hours of blow off, and then truly blossomed into a fantastic cab. Drink them now if you have them, as more age won't do them any good. Blue fruits with a bit of dirt, and still some oak coming through. Tanins well balanced.
2008
Ardenga - Rosso di Montalcino
Way too young I think. Very light table wine with a lot of acid. A score would probably not be fair at this juncture.
2007
Briggs, August - Zinfandel Old Vines
Rich, spicy, and sweet up front without being overly hot from alcohol. A great zinfandel, I will certainly be buying the old vines in the future (it does sell out quickly, though)
