2005 Leret Monpezat - Cahors
Confirms the impression from half a year ago. Deep, dark aromas, not very exuberant, but quite complex. Lots of dark fruits, blackberry, some blackcurrant and after a while blueberry. Mineral and iron and raw blood. Mellow entry but tannins that still bite. Good match, as expected, with moose beef.

2004 Roagna - Barolo Rionda
The wine was opened, decanted, allowed to breathe for a few hours. Then put back in the bottle and left uncorked in the cellar for appr 24 hours. At opening, a first sniff and taste the wine was very closed and revealed nothing but acids and tannins, really, so curiousity ran high when it was served with an entrecote of moose the day after. Sometimes you have wines in the glass that more or less comes out of the glass to meet you in the doorway. Not this one, it needed some persuasion to share it's aromas. But when it did, it was pure joy. They gave a quite soft and smooth impression, dominated by elements a la roses, violets, cherries, and some earthy tones. That impression was transferred to the palate, a smooth and pleasing start that grew to a muscular tannic punch when the wine had spent some time in the mouth. After swallowing, and after the tannins slowly had disappeared from the mouth, the smooth, balmy feeling reappeared and gave joy and pleasure for a long time! The wine and the tastes in the food matched very well. Immensely pleasing wine allready. Can't wait for the next decade to pass....

2005 Cigliuti - Barbaresco Vigna Erte
Decanted two hours prior to drinking. Lovely, concentrated Nebbiolo aromas - young and dominated by fruit and flowers: Dark cherry, roses, violets. After a while more "deep" notes with hints of tar, tobacco, earth. Should promise well for the future. The palate follows the nose, medium full body, good acids and substancial dry tannins. Aromatic finish that just lasts and lasts! Enjoyed with roast filet of duck - great match!

2003 Koehler-Ruprecht - Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Auslese Trocken
Straw yellow. Nose with mature Riesling notes, petroleum, minerals/wet stone, pineapple. Intense mouth feeling, wonderfully long, dry and aromatic finish. On day one this wine was a terrific match with chicken, filled with herbs and cheese, and ratatouille. On the second day, the wine hadn't changed after a night under vacuum, but was not a good match with crab salad. It was too "big" and too dry, almost bitter with this food. (A rich, sweetish 2004 Spätlese from Selbach-Oster, on the other hand, worked well)

2007 Cappellano - Dolcetto d'Alba
Another bottle of this one, now tasted in parallell with Roagna's 2008 Dolcetto accompanying a homemade Pizza Margherita. Quite dark, the colour indicates a wine that is bigger and more concemtrated than the younger Roagna, and that is confirmed by aroma and taste. Needs some time to open up and come out of the glass, this time. The aromas that develop are typical Dolcetto, but dark and ripe notes dominate, more so than in the previos bottles, I think. Quite full body in the mouth, refreshing acids and prominent tannins for a Dolcetto.
