Antoniolo - Gattinara
To begin with, the aromas need some persuation, but wake up after a while. usual Nebbiolo-stuff with cherries, roses etc, in a deep and harmonious tone. Some aniseed, and soemthing that can best be described as balsam.
Fresh and medium full on the palate, taste follows the nose. Tannins that dry somewhat, but not unpleasant. The balsam shows up in the fairly long finish. Interesting development in the decanter, after a few hours the balsam element is quite prominent.

Roagna Langhe Rosso
Very open straight from the bottle. Aromatic, typical Nebbiolo, and typical Roagna has I know it. Basically what I want in a Nebbiolo wine, from Young vines in a difficult vintage, if I have got it right. When the going gets tough, the tradionalists get it right :-) Really amazing actually. Aroma is obvious Nebbiolo, on the fresh side. Cherry, flowers, some tar/tobacco, and after a while some strawberries down there somewhere. Lovely on the palate, same taste elements as in the nose, and fresh, lovely acids. Obvious and tough, but not too dominating tannins. Long finish. Elegant and "focused". Excellent wine, in my opinion.

Produttori del Barbaresco - Barbaresco Riserva Paje
Drunk over two days. Straight from the bottle: what an aroma - a veritable fruit bomb, very intense, concentrated and deep fruit - red berries, sweet cherries, "cocktail berries", flowers, a hint of tobacco and wood - elegant and fresh. Fades of a bit after some time in the glass. Palate: Fresh, slim cherry fruit, really tough tannins that covers some of the fruit, but after swallowing the fruit re-emerges and lasts for a long time.
After an hour or so in the decanter, the wine was put back in the bottle, corked and put in the fridge.
Day two: has changed a lot. The same kind of fruit, stronger again now, but with better "resolution" - roses, rose berries and cherries that seem lighter than last night. Still more emphasis on freshness and elegance. Lovely mouth feel, cherries, some spice, tannins have been rounded off a bit and are not so dominating. Fresh. A long, fruity finish that is just lovely. Not very full bodied, but juicy, elegant and aromatic.

Grasso, Fratelli - Barbaresco
Had some expectations to this one after having tasted their 2005 Langhe Nebiolo a few weeks ago. Starts out well with fairly mature Nebbiolo aromas, cherry and roses, tobacco, some leather. Mouth feel isn't quite up to what I hoped, nice and fresh, but feels a bit on the thin side. Quite long, dry finish. OK, and nice price, but I think I'd rather go for the Langhe Nebb.

Ormes-Sorbet
Fairly rich bordeux aroma; blackcurrant, some spice/pepper, wood, minerals/graphite. Very promising. Mouth feel is not quite as full as the aroma could indicate, but good enough with nice juicy acids. Quite long finish with rather mellow tannins. Very good with a tasty roast of veal.
