2008
Encyclopedia - Torrontes
Almost colorless, not the typical golden hue; faint unspecific fruit aromas that quickly faded, leaving only oak. No flavor to speak of. Light to medium body. No Torrontes character at all - seems more like an anonymous, pointless California Chardonnay. If I gave points, it would be zero.
2001
Haut Selve
Garnet to orange at rim; full and round in the nose with red and black fruits, some cedar, caramel, mushroom. Allspice or cardamom? Red currant, prunes/plums in the mouth, nice acidity. Tannins still assertive but not too much so. Round and chewy texture, very long finish. Would get a high score if I believed in such things.
2006
Stonehaven - Riesling
Light gold in color. Smelled rubbery like a bicycle inner tube, with faint lime behind that. Rubber smell did not dissipate with air, nor by adding a copper penny to the glass. Lime flavors, light body, but no joy in this wine. Avoid it.
2001
Ahlgren - Syrah Ventana Vineyards
Inky garnet in color. Blackberry nose with some blueberry, bacon, a bit of forest aroma. Dark berries on the palate, medium-full bodied, smooth rich texture. Everything expanded after getting to breathe - more aroma and flavor. This is a very good value.
2004
Burrell School - Zinfandel Ryan Oaks Vineyard
Purple in color. Raspberry, brown sugar and butter on the nose. Rich black currant flavor, eucalyptus, tannic. Dry tannic finish.
