2007
Paolo Scavino - Barbera d'Alba
Petillant and a bit stinky. The smell blew off after a few hours. Fairly deep and flavorful; very nice food wine.
2003
Paolo Scavino - Barolo Bric del Fiasc
Dry, brooding; red fruit and some darker fruit; marzipan/dried cherries/baking spice; classy.
2003
Vignalta - Syrah Monte Rey
Powerful wine in the vein of Scholium, but not at that quality level. Deep, brooding hickory smoke, herbs, a bit of greenness, very alcoholic. Not a "correct" wine, but a very interesting one.
2001
Valandraud
Clearly expensive; brimming with top-quality oak perfume. The wine itself, however, seems lighter and more elegant, which does not mesh well with the level of oak. Hopefully this is just an awkward stage.
