2002
Cachamoa - Barao do Sul Garrafeira
Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Castelão. Ages 18 months in oak barrels and another 18 months of bottle aging.
Decanted for 1 hour.
Another great wine from Dão.
On the nose, it shows coffee, sweet ripe cherries, cassis, kirsch, a little bit of mint and toasty aromas. Wonderful, complex and expressive nose! I could feel the wonderful nose while decanting it.
On the palate, it's full bodied, balanced, round tannins, gently astringent, long aftertaste, very nice acidity, with more coffee, cassis and cedar with certain bitterness at the very end.
This wine is a staggering QPR.
Absolutely recommended!!
2005
Tablas Creek - Esprit de Beaucastel Blanc
100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
On the nose it smells like mentholed cherry candies, like cherry Halls.
On the palate, it lacks in acidity, flavors, depth. In brief, don't waste your time and money.
2008
MandraRossa - Rose
100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
On the nose it smells like mentholed cherry candies, like cherry Halls.
On the palate, it lacks in acidity, flavors, depth. In brief, don't waste your time and money.
2008
MandraRossa - Fiano
100% Fiano.
Nice aromas of lemon, honey, pineapple jelly with a little bit of flowers (daisies perhaps).
On the palate, it has good acidity, medium astringency, short aftertaste.
Don't drink it too cold because it might be a little mute on the nose....it started to open up when it got warmer (around 13ºC / 14ºC).
Good QPR. Recommended!!
2005
Zenato - Cabernet Sauvignon S Cristina
80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc. Aged 15-18 months in oak barrels (partially new).
It has to be decanted for at least 1 hour.
Nose: a little bit of cedar, spices, vegetables (maybe asparagus). It is pleasantly green on the nose...very distinct and interesting nose.
On the palate, it's medium-full bodied, elegant, nice acidity, very low astringency, goes extremely well with food. It paired very well with Argentinean steak and salad.
It could be more generous on the palate. It also lacks in depth and complexity. Overall, it's very interesting wine that's worthy to try. I would wait 1 year more to open it.
Recommended!
