Paul Hobbs - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Relatively uninteresting, probably too young. Massive over-oaky, over-ripe cabernet fruit in a forward style that bores me.
Palmer - Alter Ego
Drank 4/1/09; glass - medium garnet in glass, day bright, with moderate viscosity; nose - blackberries, black cherries, smoke (grilled meat), and spice (nutmeg, cinnamon); palate - black cherry, black berry, cassis, nice minerality (graphite?), relatively round but tannins that are present. This was opened in the morning, and consumed about 8 hours later. It was still fairly young in the glass, but opened up nicely over the next 2-3 hours. I suspect that this will require another 3-5 years to begin blossoming. Nice glass!
