2009
Joseph Roty - Gevrey Chambertin Les Champs Chenys
Utterly delicious. Suave, subtle nose that gives way to zingy but deep, brimming pinot flavors. Grew with the hours and held through the next day.
2010
Roque Le Mayne
This is young, quite primary, a tongue-coater. The nose doesn't give much, but there's something plummy and brambly going on. All I could do was guess at future enjoyment -- very likely if you like this style of wine. Not really for me.
2001
La Rioja Alta - Vina Ardanza Reserva Especial
Terrific expression out of the glass, the nose is an array of pleasures. Very deft on the tongue, with a wonderfully persistent finish. I cannot think of a wine that offers what this does for $40. And I think it will run a bit.
1997
Georges Mugneret - Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes 1er Cru
I may have had an off night. Or perhaps the wine did. It was in fine shape. But it just lay there.
1992
Pierre Guillemot - Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Serpentieres 1er Cru
At 20 this was gentle, easy drinking. The aromas and flavors had flattened out but there was balance between dark fruits and muted acids. Plums, earth. While I prefer some snap, this was a bottle we enjoyed.
