Steve Bachmann's profile

Steve Bachmann
Steve Bachmann
San Francisco, CA
Steve Bachmann began collecting wine in the early '90s, fueled in part by a move to London, where he had the chance to experience a wider variety of European wines. He founded Vinfolio in 2003, as a solution to the common frustration of managing a nearly 7,000-bottle collection. Steve's background as managing director of Broadview Holdings LLP, where he advised on technology mergers and acquisitions in the US and Europe for 13 years, has served him well in his current role as Vinfolio's CEO. Steve holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a board member of the Specialty Wine Retailers Association, a member of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and a Trustee of the Town School for Boys in San Francisco.

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a way to easily distribute a list of headlines, update notices, and sometimes inventory changes to a wide number of people. Think of it as a one-stop shop for all the stuff you want to read online. For the consumer, an aggregator or reader, either web-based or installed on your computer, ties it all together.

To make use of this information, you have to download and install an RSS feed reader like SharpReader. Every so often, the aggregator checks the RSS feeds you selected. You log on to the aggregator and see the updates to your favorite sites, blogs and stores, all in one place. For more information on RSS, please visit:

2005 Schaefer, Willi - Graacher Domprobst Riesling Kabinett
Refreshing, bursting with stone fruit, pale yellow color. Perfectly pleasant wine but a bit low in acidity for my taste. Not "crisp" enough.

2003 Patton Valley - Pinot Noir Lorna-Marie Cuvee
Seemed a little closed to me; less fruit forward than many Oregon pinots.

1996 Ambroise, Bertrand - Corton Le Rognet
Drinking super well and plenty of life left in it. Deep color, one of better Cortons I have had in a while. Usually they are very tight and take forever to open up.

1996 Zind-Humbrecht - Riesling Rangen Clos St Urbain
Gorgeous, dry reisling. Nice acidity, perfectly balanced. Faint peach aromatic on nose. Orange peel, grapefruit flavors. Drinking well now. Served it at a dinner party to encourage people to try something "different" and ended up opening several bottles.

1997 Laurent, Dominique - Vosne-Romanee Les Beaumonts 1er Cru
Went through 4 bottles of this at a dinner party (to everyone's enjoyment) but I thought it a bit unbalanced with some astringncy/burn on the palate. More than likely a function of the vintage.
