2004
Penfolds - Shiraz RWT
Not as smooth as the 2005 vintage but still a nice shiraz. Color is very dark purple/black. Nose of tannins, dark fruit, powerful oak, rubber, and like a bell pepper vegetal note. On the palate you get heavy dark fruit up front with tannins and oak on the mid palate, tannins are integrated at first but strengthen toward the backend, on the back you also get some oak, dark fruit, and those rubber/vegetal notes, like a yellow bell pepper with a little spicy note. All in all good but not right now, hold on to if you have it for at least 5 more years.
2005
Wild Horse - Pinot Noir Cheval Sauvage
Very tannic and strong on the nose, suggest decant of at least an hour. Nice strawberry flavors under the tannins, lingering oak and deep red fruits with like a cranberry nose on the back end. Very interesting wine but it brings some heat and acid that overwhelms some of the great fruit flavors on the palate. Similar palate with strawberries, cranberries, and even like a pomegranite flavor, oak and some slight dark chocolate covered strawberries on the back end. Nice fruit but you really have to get through the acid and tannins.
2005
Groth - Cabernet Sauvignon
A nice nose of oak, vanilla, and cherries/cassis. Very suttle wine not overpowering. On the palate very similar with creamy tannins and acidity that blended well with the vanilla and fruit flavors with a small amount of oak on the back end.
2007
Melville - Pinot Noir Estate
I thought that this was a very nice pinot, not a 94 like Parker stated. It does bring some heat, but it goes well with the acidity on the back end. On the nose you get heat, cherry, strawberry, some faint baking spices and vegetal/basil notes. On the palate it is very red fruit front palate orientated with a tannic/heat soaked mid/back palate. Very creamy and well structured, decent finish with slight heat and acid. All in all I think that right now this is a 90 point wine but give it 1-2 years and I think that this will be a 92+ wine.
1999
Bollinger - La Grande Annee
Very nice champagne. Pale in color with a very fine mousse. Loads of toast, sweet pastries, with like a starbucks vanilla/caramel latte flavor. It definately has a wonderful long finish that leaves you wanting more.
