2002
Delesvaux - Coteaux du Layon St Aubin
An edge of caramel to the pure-grape expression of Chenin - very nice, drink it up.
2002
Brutocao - Merlot Estate
Delicious - consistent with wine-maker's notes. Will not hesitate to pull off a shelf in the future. Good fruit, good balance, nice cedary oak kiss. Medium to full body, engaging.
1991
Badia a Passignano - Chianti Classico Riserva
Initially hot and lean with what appeared to be fading fruit, but devoid of tannic presence. Did not finish with dinner. - After a night in the fridge it seemed like an altogether different wine; fresh, balanced, fruity, extremely drinkable and surprisingly delicious. Repeat with dinner (lasagna both nights) was much better and even more complimentary. This is a wine that doesn't like to be jostled out of bed, but prefers to stretch and unwind very slowly. If you have access to this wine I highly recommend it, but let it breath for a minimum of 6 hours before you try it and chill it slightly.
1991
Far Niente - Dolce
Very sweet & a tad alcoholic. Reminiscent of a vin santo, but honeyed. Sip - do not gulp. Rich and long.
1997
Stags' Leap Winery - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Nose and flavors of blueberries and currants (red and black) with well integrated oak and smooth tannins. Still fresh, but more composed than last tasting and drinking very well.
