RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a way to easily distribute a list of headlines, update notices, and sometimes inventory changes to a wide number of people. Think of it as a one-stop shop for all the stuff you want to read online. For the consumer, an aggregator or reader, either web-based or installed on your computer, ties it all together.

To make use of this information, you have to download and install an RSS feed reader like SharpReader. Every so often, the aggregator checks the RSS feeds you selected. You log on to the aggregator and see the updates to your favorite sites, blogs and stores, all in one place. For more information on RSS, please visit:

2005 Wilson - Zinfandel Sawyer Vineyard
Blackberry fruit, a little black pepper spice. Drinking really well now. Tannnins are still forward, so should be fine for 3-4 more years.

2005 Arista - Pinot Noir Mononi Vineyard
Immediately after popping and pouring, powerful barnyard nose but a little less strong on the front palate. Definitely Pinot. The brett mostly blows away after 15 minutes or so. Now there is peppermint or cotton candy on the nose but the fruit remains muted and I can't pick out the flavors -- probably because at this point I'm into the gruyere and pita chips. Good balance with mild acidity. There is still plenty of structure and a long finish, but I would drink this wine now. I still have 5 more bottles, so I'll try another one in a week or so to verify this judgement.

1996 Quintessa - Red
Mowed grass and green pepper on the nose. Fruit and acidity well balanced. Spice and cedar complements the fruit. Great color and clarity. Not a hint of oxidation on the edge. Short to medium finish. Fruit is slighty muted but plenty of structure to last another 5-7 years.

2005 Papapietro Perry - Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
Great color and clarity. Barnyard on the initial nose and palate, disappearing after 30 minutes. Not off-putting at all. Muted fruit - dried cherry and pomegranate. Drink this soon. It won't improve.

(Tasted May 26, 2009)

2005 Papapietro Perry - Pinot Noir Peters Vineyard
Lush black cherry on the nose. Big fruit on the front palate and more black cherry on the mid palate. Long finish. Great acidity to balance the forward fruit flavors. Very drinkable now; probably improve for a year or two and should hold for 3-4 years.
