San Francisco
Although I am best known for my love of Champagne, I also enjoy drinking red wines from Burgundy, Bordeaux, the Rhone Valley, Campania and Tuscany. For aperitifs, I have a penchant towards crisp white wines such as German Rieslings, Chablis, Gruner Veltliner, or those made from indigenous southern Italian grapes like Falanghina, Vermentino, and Fiano. Recently I completed the diploma with the London-based Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and contemplate studying for the Master of Wine certification. My undergraduate study was in French and Comparative Literature at Bryn Mawr College. I also completed a Masters in French at UC, Irvine. My favorite hobbies include watching foreign films, playing piano, singing with the SF Bach Choir, taking long-distance runs, sailing, learning about wine, reading both classic and recent fiction, and camping.

2004 Cuvee du Vatican - Chateauneuf du Pape Sixtine Reserve
Tasty. Meaty and dark berry flavors like blueberry and plum. I like the barnyard element here. There is also some bramble/underbrush elements as well. It has enough tannin and structure to age another 10-15 years.

1993 Hilltop - Neszmely Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos
Excellent dessert wine! The concentrated flavor in this Tokaji reveals itself over time and in the long mouth-finish. I loved the spice notes such as nutmeg and cinnamon. It also showed some orange peel and caramelized nut flavors like walnut and pecans. I think this would be a great pair for pumpkin pie, bread pudding, or pecan pie. Yum.

2004 Chamboureau - Savennieres Roche aux Moines Cuvee d'Avant
Interesting white. Quite dry and chalky. I liked it, but I'm not sure I would get excited about buying it again.

2005 HdV - Belle Cousine
My friends enjoyed this more than I did. I felt that it had a bit too much oak and sweet fruit.

1991 Harlan out of Magnum
At a recent Vinfolio staff meeting we blind tasted the 1991 Harlan out of magnum. I thought it was very well balanced and showed strong fruit on the palate despite the apparent aging suggested by the the rim variation. My guess...
