1988
Dunn - Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain
I tasted this wine twice and definitely enjoyed it more the first time but I think it was because of the extensive decanting time. Great Cabernet fruit profile with notes of tobacco and coffee as well as blue fruits.
1985
Dunn - Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain
This wine was very pleasing with elegant red fruit flavors and multiple layers. I was sad to finish the bottle.

Girardin, Vincent - Corton-Renardes (Vieilles Vignes)
A lovely wine dominated by spice and soft red fruits. It has a medium ruby core with a garnet colored rim. The aromas in the bouquet include red currant, cream, milk chocolate, cinnamon, and floral notes. The palate surfaces minerals, cranberry, allspice, tobacco, and gamy earth flavors. It has a medium plus finish accented by sweet spice and almond. The quality shows.

Gouges, Henri - Nuits St Georges Clos des Porrets-St Georges 1er Cru
Deep ruby core that was surprisingly dark for Pinot. On the nose I detect notes of tobacco, floral fruit, and dusty dirt. This wine has lots of density, structure and high acid. The "chewy" red-blue fruits include black cherry and plum. The finish is powerful, dominated by substantial ripe tannins. An intense, brooding wine that will benefit from several years of bottle age to soften. I'm curious to see how this wine develops over the next five years. A great candidate for investment.

Robin, Gilles - Saint Joseph Andre Pealat
'06 St. Joseph Andre Pealat has a beautiful bouquet and silky smooth body - an elegant Rhone that should not be missed! The color of the core is deep ruby turning purple as is typical with Syrah. The bouquet is harmonious blend of aromas including stones, smoke, violets, blackberry and currant. The flavors on the palate are delicious. I love the combination of "moist soil," dark chocolate, anise, cherry, and fleshy black plum that gives it a subtle underlying sweetness. This wine shows both intense minerality and high acidity. The silky smooth tannins and long finish seal the deal. Well done!

At a recent Vinfolio staff meeting we blind tasted the 1991 Harlan out of magnum. I thought it was very well balanced and showed strong fruit on the palate despite the apparent aging suggested by the the rim variation. My guess...
