Rocas - Garnacha
over the hill.
De Trafford - Shiraz
this was a lovely syrah. Evolved in the glass for 45 min after we opened it. Stunning nose, aromatic. Black fruits predominated, hints of tar on the edges, just a bit smoky. I can't imagine this improving much in the bottle, so drink it up!
Tokara - Red
This was a lovely wine. Brilliant ruby, great legs, wonderful mouthfeel, some nice tannins at the start that had disappeared over the 2 hours we drank it.Very nice nose as well. Violets, cedar, red fruit and a bit of barnyard. It evolved very nicely over the 2 hours we had it open--by the end it was just a bit flat, so i would suggest drinking this sooner rather than waiting....
Oubenheim - Syrah
this was fully mature and ready to drink. Lots of fruit, but little tannic backbone. Soft. Drink it up soon.
Rust en Vrede - Estate Blend
This was very nice. some characteristic smoke, lots of fruit, nice tannin backbone, pretty well integrated. Evolved in glass for 1 hour. great with red meat. Fully mature (not going to get any better)
