Rust en Vrede - Estate Blend
This was very nice. some characteristic smoke, lots of fruit, nice tannin backbone, pretty well integrated. Evolved in glass for 1 hour. great with red meat. Fully mature (not going to get any better)
Caymus - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
still going strong. Plenty of fruit, and nice tannic backbone. Got better for first 30 min, then plateaued for 1 hour (and then it was gone because we drank it. If you have some, drink it, --still great, but won't be getting better.
Chapoutier - Hermitage
Vieux Donjon - Chateauneuf du Pape
Perfectly mature, easy drinking with a fair amount of complexity left, but needs to be drunk soon! The nose was minimal. Fair amount of body left. tannins and fruit were well balanced. Some smoke. cedar notes. still berry/dark fruits.
Chateau St Jean - Cinq Cepages
This is still a great wine! Fully mature, rich, full bodied. Great fruit--cherry, raspberry. Wonderful nose. Cedar, tobacco, saddle leather. This will not get better, so if you are lucky enough to have some of this lying around, drink it up!
