Vecchie Terre di Montefili - Colli della Toscana
Many reports that I have read featuring this wine suggested that 2007 - 2012 was to be the ideal drinking window for this wine. I can say without fear of contradiction that this wine is still drinking magnificently in 2014 and it suggests at least 5 more years at this ideal point to me. It has a lovely and inviting nose of black berry fruit and liqourice. The taste is full and the finish is unbelievably long. I felt that the blackcurrant and perhaps even raspberry flavours that accompanied a chocolate style richness of this wine were marvelous. It is drinking beautifully and accompanies roast pork delightfully. What a lovely wine.
Corsin - Saint-Veran Vieilles Vignes
This is a magnificent expression of the best elements of white burgundy. It is buttery, silky smooth, aromatic with the most pleasant green fruit hints and is the most expressive accompaniment to white fish in a delicate sauce (I was eating John Dory - heavenly). It is essential to decant this wine (or just enjoy it at its best the day after you open it) amaze yourself.....IF you can find this wine more than 500m from the domain doors!!
Von Schubert - Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg Riesling Spatlese
Oh this is lovely!! It's sweet (too sweet for my wife) but it has the most alluring backbone of acidity, it's compellingly beautiful. Mouthwatering, with the most sublime aroma, that sings stone fruits and drags you compelled back to the glass for another mouthful. Pairs wonderfully with blue cheese, and spicy Thai flavours. Glorious spatlese. Easy to see why 'Abtsberg' is a special location. But bear in mind that some folk may not love it as I believe you can - share cautiously!
von Schubert Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg Riesling Kabinett
As charming and packed as this is with fruit, it betrays a wonderful mineral streak common in all Abtsberg wines which is what makes this so very appealing, notes of wet earth, slate and stone encircled by bright citrus rind character and succulent braeburn apple notes.
