Cliff Lede - Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District
Rich in aromas, with almost porty weight to the black currant, mulberry and blackberry aromas. Still young in smell and feel, with rich, glycerol-like weight on the palate, making the alcohol apparent in feel if not heat. Silky smooth Nd concetrated, with gobs of black fruit and hint of oak, finishing with a touch of tannins and tobacco.
A good, dry, medium- to full-bodied red that is reminiscent of Bordeaux, though with darker fruit flavors. Borders on gritty, so recommended with food.
Shinn - Cabernet Franc
Shows great ripeness and concentration. Tannins have softened in this mid- to full-bodied red. Darker red fruit drives the palate, with hints of clove and blackberry. Doesn't have the telltale Cab Franc stalkiness, but depth of fruit and comlexity.
Beni di Batasiolo - Barolo La Corda Della Briccolina
Full-bodied and fairly rich, this shows fine acidity for the vintage, with still alive and very full tannins. Aromas of bing cherries, cedar and hints of roses leads to almost crunchy red fruit on the palate. Concentration could be better, and the tannins overwhelm, so don't think this will improve with age, but should be good over the next few years.
Ca' del Bosco Cuvee Prestige Brut
A bit overdone on the oak, with toasty flavors leading towards caramel over citrus and vanilla. Fair bubbles but not an NV meant for laying down.
