2001
Concha y Toro - Merlot Marques de Casa Concha
This wine is Parkerish, well structured but definitely in the new world style--and not nearly as interesting as the Lapostelle 1996 tasted just before. This seems to be where Chile has gone, and that is why Argentina seems more interesting now. This is blackberry-cherry, a touch of chocolate.
2000
Col d'Orcia - Rosso di Montalcino
Sour cherry that is not becoming in this wine. Rather light to medium bodied and yet it complemented the food rather well. Not for sipping alone, though.
2004
Cornellana - Merlot
Dark red colour, rather plain but quaffable cherry-plum and a touch of spice. Not at all unpleasant--and another Opimian "good buy."
1996
Bajoz - Tinto de Toro Crianza
This is a wine with some refinement, a smooth texture, fully mature, with plum and spice on the palate.
