2006
Rocas - Garnacha
Very good granache, spices, black currants, earthy. Good value
2007
Perrin & Fils - Cotes du Rhone Reserve
Five generations of Perrin winemaking culminate here as you breathe in aromas of red plum preserve, ripe strawberry, floral, spice, chicory, and earthy tones. There's plenty of juicy cherry and raspberry flavour, surrounded by supple tannins on the medium-bodied palate. Enjoy this food-friendly and charming red with casual dishes (pizza or hamburgers) or more sophisticated fare (grilled gourmet sausages, game stew, steak). This is a rock solid Cote Du Rhone and although very young it still drinks very well. Very nice purity of fruit. Clean and balanced with very nice Cote Du Rhone characteristics. Pepper, minerality, and some herb and meat characteristics. I will buy more and wait for it to develop.
2007
Concha y Toro - Carmenere Casillero del Diablo
Dark berry fruit and spice on the nose. Very fruity with soft tannins and a lingering fruity aftertaste. Medium-bodied with the alcohol standing out a bit. Simplistic but very easy drinking. Drink now.
2008
Reh Kendermann - Black Tower Rivaner
As is typical for inexpensive German whites, this one is cloyingly sweet with nothing to balance it. Serve chilled for garden party or family and friends gathering under the sun. Absolutely not for a formal functioning!
2005
Moueix, Christian - Merlot
A classic pairing of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Shiraz gives warmth and roundness of flavour. The Cabernet Sauvignon, with its blackcurrant fruit, lends elegance. Its softness on the palate is the result of 4-5 months' partial oak ageing. Enjoy with red meats.
Especially for the price CAD$15. Good!
