Clos du Val - Merlot
Purple with a garnet edge. Roses and cedar on the nose. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Reserved fruit, some red cherry but mostly prune and clove. Elegant for a California merlot but guessing its prime was around 7 years. Still nice, drink now.

Catena - Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep maroon, almost black color. Aromas of vanilla, chocolate and toasted oak with some fruit. Nice palate, round juicy black fruit with a bit of red currant. Balance tannins and acidity, easy to drink. Drink now.

Casa Lapostolle - Merlot Cuvee Alexandre
Deep red, maroon color, slight brown ring on the edge. Upon opening, strong earthy aromas with mushroom, not much fruit or floral on the nose. On the palate, black fruit, mushroom and pepper. Hot alchoholic finish that faded as the bottle was open for some time. Medium dry tannins on the finish.
