Medium garnet in color with a powerful nose of blackberry liqueur, red cherries, currants, and charred oak. There are no varietals listed on the bottle, so the first sip was a great surprise. It tastes like some kind of "dinner port." There is a bit of residual sugar here, but it is in no way heavy or cloying. Flavors of sherried cherries, cedar, and cigar smoke are reminiscent of the flavors found in tawny port. Although not for everyone, this wine did find an excellent match in a meal of Mexican-spiced pork and sweet potato / lentil stew.
