Three years after recommending this wine be put down for a few years, we cracked open another bottle. The nose still shows red currants, cherries, and blueberries, but alcohol is no longer noticeable. In fact, it now shows aromas of leather and graphite as well. On the palate, age has brought out spice notes, and the tannins that remain are much softer. Overall, the wine is far more drinkable; a textbook example of the benefits of patience.
