Producer Notes

Peter Michael's estate vineyards (founded in 1982) are what make his wines truly exceptional. Issue Issue 156

Greenish gold. Pungent aromas of dried pear, lemon pith, saffron and smoky lees, with slow-building minerality and a touch of peat. Densely packed but energetic, offering lively orchard and citrus fruit flavors and an exotic floral quality. The peaty note resonates strongly on the finish, which hangs on with impressive tenacity. For all its power, this chardonnay conveys a sense of weightlessness.

Issue 193

There are only 450 cases of the 2009 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene. One of the finest 2009s, it reveals lots of leesy, waxy, honeyed notes intermixed with pineapple, buttered apple and other assorted tropical fruits. This elegant, medium to full-bodied, rich, intense 2009 came in at 15.2% alcohol, which is slightly lower than the 2008 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene (under 500 cases produced).

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
