The historic State Lane Vineyard, in the heart of the Napa Valley, was first leased by Beringer Estates in 1972 and was used to launch Beringer's famous Private Reserve Cabernet. (51% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, 6% cabernet franc and 3% petit verdot): Good deep ruby-red. Superripe, full-blown aromas of kirsch , blackberry liqueur, dark cherry, leather and game, plus an exotic whiff of pineapple. Fat, sweet and wild, with the blackberry and leather elements following through on the palate. A very ripe, smooth wine but can't match the 2010 for energy.

The 2009 Endre is a major step up in quality from the 2008 I tasted alongside it. The wine reveals lovely fleshiness and depth in its dark fruit, tobacco and spices. I especially like the way the Endre fleshes out on the finish. The 2009 is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Syrah.

Shows a lush and pretty nose of red and black fruits, along with a little graphite. Beautiful ripeness in the front of the mouth with solid structure to the deep black fruits.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
