There is an opulent nose on this unusual, deep red blend of 40% Barbera, 40% Zinfandel, and 20% Merlot of black cherries, winter spice, and mint. On the palate, however, chocolate rules. It is not elegant. It is not refined. It is, however, delicious. The effect of drinking this wine is akin to biting into a chocolate covered cherry. Best suited as a cocktail wine, Cat's Pajamas is sure to go over well with people who claim to not enjoy wine. As such, one would think that it would be ill-suited for dinner, but there is such a lift from acidity at the mid-palate that it fared quite well with grilled pork.
