Castlebank Vineyard Sources: These Zinfandel vineyards are located on the hillsides of the Dry Creek Valley in northern Sonoma County. Portions of the vines were planted around the turn of the twentieth century, and the rest between 25 and 40 years old. Our Zinfandel vines are head-pruned and hand picked. Winemaking: Our Zinfandel style is to showcase Dry Creek Valley's personality of fruit and spice. Our grapes are handpicked with scrupulous attention paid to harvesting the fruit at the optimum time, without over-ripening the fruit. The gentle turning of the grapes and juice during fermentation, known as "pumpovers" three times each day coaxes color and flavor from the skins. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in American and French oak barrels for 12 months. Technical Information: Appellation: Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County Composition: 95% Zinfandel; 5% Petite Sirah Aging: 12 months in a blend of new French oak and seasoned American Oak Alcohol: 15.70% pH: 3.75 Total Acidity: .600g/100ml Tasting Notes A deep purplish-red in color, this mouth-watering Zinfandel is full bodied and intense. Familiar signs of Dry Creek Valley Zin-- aromas of ripe blackberries, spices and black pepper, and jammy fruit flavors fill the nose and mouth . This is a concentrated wine that offers a great balance of fruit, spice and tannin combined with a long, voluptuous finish. Enjoy now or cellar for three more years.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
