Red Proprietary Blend
Producer Notes

No Washington winery commands more attention from wine collectors than Quilceda Creek, with repeated 100-point scores and subsequent appreciating bottle value. Since 1978, the Alex Golitzin and his son Paul have been lauded for their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, which is elevated by the Bordelais practice of declassification of up to one third of production into a second label each year. Issue Issue 153

($35; a Bordeaux blend based on 72% cabernet sauvignon) Bright ruby-red. Expressive, slightly liqueur-like aromas of currant, cocoa powder and flowers. Supple, silky and sweet, with an enticing floral quality providing lift to the seamless palate. A lovely plump, fruity, slightly high-toned blend with plenty of sexy Taransaud oak showing. Will make delicious early drinking.

Issue 190

The 2007 Red Wine is composed of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, with the balance Cabernet Franc and Malbec. As always, it is a great value offering a fragrant, already complex nose of confiture of black fruits, incense, and Asian spices. On the palate it is savory and elegant with a plush texture. It is likely to evolve for several years but there is no compelling reason to defer gratification.

Drink Dates 2010-2017

Firm, with a light grip of tannins around a core of dark berry, currant, smoke and tobacco flavors. This has elegance and depth, with a welcome sense of reticence that doesn't push the flavors too strong. Finishes very long, with a silky texture.

Liked it less than previous bottles. Is it past its prime? Not sure. Smooth but not a lot of fruit.

Tasted alongside the 2006 CV Red; this was the unanimous favorite. Lusher and better balanced, this made the 06 seem a little austere. Will try more time on the 06; the 07 is ready to drink.

Good, but a little bit one-dimensional. Nice flavor and pleasant fruit and texture. Not as good as I thought last time.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
