Red Pinot Noir
Producer Notes

Kosta-Browne started its supersonic trek to celebrity status in 1997, when pals Dan Kosta and Michael Browne pooled their restaurant tips and purchased a half ton of Pinot Noir, a manual crusher-de-stemmer and a used barrel. Adding the business and investment-savy Chris Costello gave Kosta Browne the requisite resources to expand into the Pinot force they are today. Fruit is sourced from... More »

Firm and focused, with a wonderful purity of flavor, offering a complex, focused mix of black cherry, raspberry, spice and anise. Full-bodied and concentrated. Long and persistent on the finish. Drink now through 2014.

14.5% ABV. Opened and poured through the Vinturi into a decanter. Followed over two hours. Initial nose of black cherry, toasty earth and sweet cranberry. There is some nice 'Pinot funk' on the nose as well. On the palate there is bitter, smokey black cherry with vanilla cream running throughout. Ripe strawberry lines the edges of the wine and dusty tannins. Really tart fruit with nice acid levels. Recanted and vaccum sealed. On day two the tartness of the fruit has toned but the acidity is still there. There is more vanilla toast with some chocolate powder dust, tar and earth spices. Also some bitter black raspberry starts to show. Overall the wine still needs some bottle time. Bright future, wait 1-2+ years for maturity.

Holy Crap! Fruit, fruit, fruit! Just an absolute joy to drink. I had to fight the urge to chug it. Heck, I had to fight the urge to bathe in it.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
