Producer Notes

Scientific methodology prevails at quirky Australian winery Mollydooker, a 1995 creation of husband and wife Sparky and Sarah Marquis. Famed for their consistently high-scoring "Velvet Glove" Shiraz, the Marquis team strives to produce the "velvet glove" palate sensation, a blanket of flavor that covers the palate before the structure is revealed, in all their blends. Had with group at House of Prime Rib. Wonderful shiraz, lots of big ink and rich berry flavor. Great value wine from MD but you must like these ink bombs to appreciate it.

Consistent with prior notes from April. Dark inky purple color. No light passing. Rich bombastic fruit flavors literally leap out of the glass to hit your nose! Sucker punch! Really, this has some wonderful fruit on tap. Rich and deep black and blue berry. Doing the Mollydooker shake really does help blow off some of the heat. Allowed to sit open for one hour before pouring. The difference from the Boxer level label, is the smooth and velvety approach on the palate. All the richness of the fruit, Syrup, and expresso bean is there, with less of the oak and tannic bit. What it does well, it does really well. However, this is close to desert in a glass, and really hard to pair with food. Went well with a slice of pecan pie, but not as much with lighter fare. This is a worthy bottle, but is not for the faint of heart

Deep inky purple with lighter red brick edges. Aromas of cedar, blueberries, black cherries and sweet lemon drops. Palate is rich and smooth. Definitely some spicy (black pepper?) hints. Can taste the vanillan from American oak. A nice wine but slightly over priced for the quality.

Unmistakable huge Aussie shiraz. Lots of big dark fruit up front, and lots of alcohol. Long long finish, the flavors stick on your tongue for minutes at a time. Blackberry, vanilla, dust, and strawberry flavors. Aromas of cinnamon and raspberries.

Smooth, powerful, and plush. Muted aromatics. Almost port like feel.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
