When you bring your own wine, especially something non-California into Napa Valley I'd say it's good to be careful and make sure you research the list ahead of time. I felt confident in bringing this to Redd Wood given their assortment of Italian wines despite being in the heart of Napa Valley and I was not disappointed. I stood it up 3 days and decanted at the restaurant. It was singing almost immediately but very primary - the blueberry flavors were up front, but it was tight. 30 minutes of air fixed that and gave an incredible nose of red fruits and an amazing mouth filling sensation with flavors of sandalwood and a little coffee coming through at the end. The structure and backbone was all there, could have been a steak wine, or a red sauce pasta. Pizza did just fine. Tannins are gripping but not harsh, stained the glass with slow moving legs. This was recognizably Merlot and while somewhat new world in style it made you appreciate why coastal tuscany, bordeaux and the Napa Valley excel with these varietals. I'd say this drinks exceptionally with some air and will last at least 10 more years.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
