A similar nose that is not as fresh leads to rich, full and vibrant flavors that possess a better sense of underlying freshness than the nose but the otherwise lingering finish is both mildly bitter and a bit short. Perhaps this is simply in a difficult phase but the backend is not harmonious and as such, I would not be inclined to risk aging this wine.

Vivid red. Pretty aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, rose and spicecake. Supple, silky and restrained, with alluring sweetness on the middle palate. The red berry flavors are penetrating and impressively pure; silky tannins add shape and provide structure but fade quickly into the fruit. Spreads out on the sweet, spicy, very long finish.

The 2007 Pinot Noir Mount Carmel cuts a stylistic path between the rich, fruit-driven Melville and the more earthy, barnyardy, terroir-driven Clos Pepe. The Mount Carmel offers plenty of blue and red fruits intermixed with hints of smoke, roasted herbs, earth, pomegranate, and underbrush. The sweetness of the tannins, beautiful full-bodied mouthfeel, and good acidity all reflect another brilliant Pinot Noir from this exceptionally talented duo. It should drink well for 10-15 years.

Serves up a pleasing beam of mineral, spice and green apple fruit that's intense and complex, clean and delicate. Drink now through 2011. 480 cases made.

14.7% alcohol Aromas: exotic phenolics in the nose initially delivering whiffs of pine pitch Palate: more exotic framework, the fruit is sourced from the top fruit sources including Sanford& Benedict Impression: a very adventurous, cutting edge style of wine, not for the pinot purist

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
