good tannin, quite complex, should age more years. the major drawback is lack of acidity and hence short on finish

This dark red Syrah from renowned Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel producer Ridge was a delightful surprise. Made in the Cote Rotie style with an addition of Viognier, the aroma of spice and red fruit was made more intoxicating by the Viognier's floral perfume. Sweet red fruit flavors were balanced perfectly with a bright acidity and some cardamom and star anise notes.

The Lytton Springs Zinfandel from Ridge was impressive. The bouquet bubbled with aromas of dusty black raspberry, mocha coffee, and lavender. The palate was earthy, deep, and complex with carry-over from the nose. The finish was silky and elegant with integrated tannins. Delicious.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
