Issue 109

The Ponzi's own one of only three domestic sources of Arneis, planted in 1991. It seems so incongruous in a portfolio of some of the most revered Pinot in the state, however, the Ponzis have always been innovators and this turns out to be an excellent, though surprising wine. <br><br/> A brightly herbal and melon nose leads into the softly textured palate showing clean acidity with a hint of clean melon on the finish.

Pale yellow color. A very pronounced elderberry, grapefruit and straw nose. The mouthfeel is silky with acidity more crisp than a deep-fried lemon twist. Primary fruit showing is grapefruit, citrus, tropical pineapple & guava with elements of elderflower. Nicely balanced and a delicious finish

I had this with a chef salad on 12/14/08. When first opened, this was bitter, but after an hour of air that went away and it became very nice. It had a very pleasant bouquet with aromas of pear, nuts, apple and citrus. The palate followed closely with pear, apple, almond and tangerine flavors. It is very acidic with a long 40 second finish.
