This inaugural release is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc and represents the best of the Napa Valley by blending estate grapes from Oakville, Rutherford Ridge, and Rutherford. In the glass there is a beautiful ruby red hue followed by aromas of blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry that explode and combine with mocha and brambles. This 2006 Cabernet blend is mouth filling as well as chewy with a great structure, sweet tannins, and multiple layers of dark berry fruit, espresso, and dark chocolate and just a kiss of oak.

Wow, good thing I did not look at the ratings before opening. I'm not sure I would have had the interest in opening. Agree, not a good bottle of wine, at all. Tart, tannin and just not much fruit. Had a headache the next day!

Drink Dates 2011-2016

Noticeable berry fruit with a dusty quality, with black fruit, cedar, and coffee on the nose. Decant for 4-6 hours, because even in 2012, the wine is tightly wound. It opens up eventually with red and black fruit, with a hint of black tea, a noticeable oak and spice character on the palate, with grippy tannins making for a long, if still somewhat astringent finish.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
