"Kunde's '202' Meritage is a New World expression of the great red wines of Bordeaux. In other words, we use the same grape varieties as they do in France, but the flavors are all about Sonoma Valley. Imagine pure, ripe blackberries nestled into some rich dark chocolate with a little spice sprinkled over it all to add further layers of flavor. A glass of this wine with grilled chicken or pork tenderloin will be like adding a rich fruit sauce to your delicious creation. They don't make flavors like these in Bordeaux; this is pure Kunde!"
Moderate, steady temperatures in 2006 let us cherry pick blocks and sub-blocks at the peak of ripeness. These wines are full and open in their youth, with good structure for the future.
A two day cold soak was followed by inoculation with multiple selected yeasts for complexity. Pumpovers were done twice per day with aeration and vigorous folding in of the cap early on for better extraction and color. Pressed near the end of fermentation when the tannins were balanced, the wine was then aged for 18 months in small French and American oak barrels, 56% new oak. The wine was bottled in July 2008.
