Red Syrah
Producer Notes

Without winemaking in his blood or genes, Chis Brockway has followed a long and indirect route on his path of wine discovery. It led from a childhood in Nebraska to an undergraduate Philosophy degree, which seemed useless at the time, but proved otherwise. He tried "more practical" jobs before getting into the Seattle restaurant world, where he was inspired to pursue a degree in Enology at Fresno... More »

Issue 209

Chris Brockway has created a delicious blended red that will surprise those who taste it with the dynamic integration found in the aromas and flavors. Chris is the 8th generation nephew of Vine Starr Brockway, and a name like that was bound to wind up on a wine bottle sooner or later. 2006 is the premiere release, and Vinfolio is first to bring it to you. One of the best values for the price in a wine under 250 cases. Don't be shy about this one.

Arrowhead Mountain Vineyard Zinfandel makes up 2/3 of the blend, along with 30% Syrah, 2% Petite Sirah and 1% Mourvedre. Showing aromas of flint, cherry and herb in the nose. The palate is richly framed with pretty boysenberry and licorice. The wine surprises with the amount of viscosity and velvet-like smoothness, excellent acidity with mouth-watering cranberry, graphite and plum on the finish

Thi is a delicious medium bodied wine. The Vinfolio tasting notes are right on although I would score slightly lower: "Arrowhead Mountain Vineyard Zinfandel makes up 2/3 of the blend, along with 30% Syrah, 2% Petite Sirah and 1% Mourvedre. Showing aromas of flint, cherry and herb in the nose. The palate is richly framed with pretty boysenberry and licorice. The wine surprises with the amount of viscosity and velvet-like smoothness, excellent acidity with mouth-watering cranberry, graphite and plum on the finish."

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
