2006 Williams Selyem - Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Pinot Noir - USA - California - Sonoma - Russian River Valley - Red

USA - California - Sonoma - Russian River Valley

Red Pinot Noir
Producer Notes

The emergence of Williams Selyem as one of California's Pinot Noir leaders is an improbable success story. Founders Burt Williams and Ed Selyem started making wine under the Hacienda del Rio Winery label in a garage in Fulton. Their first wine was a 1981 Zinfandel, but very soon after they began their quest for great Pinot Noir. By the late 1980s, Williams had retired as a typesetter and Selyem... More »

Solid Williams Selyem wine. A bit more tart than other RRV pinots by Williams Selyem. Good fruit but not round

Not bad, not great, nothing that blows your mind. Just consistently nice. Was better about 7 months ago...could be bottle variation. Color: Muddled, cloudy medium red in color. Not a big color/clirity guy, but very noticeable. Nose: Earthy, some burt orange, whiffs of alcohol. Some flowers and cherry. Palate: Some minerality, red berry and cherry, finsih a little short.

This wine reminds me very much of our 2002 Russian River. The nose is fragranced with ripe plums, wild blackberry jam, violets, forest floor, crème brûlée and honey-cured bacon. Your mouth fills with blackberries, blueberries, sassafras, nutmeg and toasty oak. The ripe, concentrated tannins are rich and round across your palate and the balanced acidity and berry finish is long and lingering. A fuller bodied wine that should get better with 5-6 years of age.

Pale garnet in color, this wine has a bright rush of raspberry aromas in the nose with hints of cocoa powder. In the mouth it is velvety smooth and lush with bright raspberry and plum flavors that are given more dimension and depth through hints of herbs and spices and a note of darker berries. Perfectly balanced and incredibly long in the finish this wine is pleasure from start to finish.

still very, very young. Beautiful taste, should sit longer. Will try again next year!

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
