A dizzying depth is merely hinted at by the nose. Start off the experience with its stunning aromatics of somewhat masked chocolate-cured dried plum, black currant and stewed cherries. Just a hint of lava rock intrudes into this at the very back. The palate slowly drenches you palate in Hercules-style tannins that are cloaked with massive and inky black fruits, licorice, star anise and tobacco leaf-wrapped blackberry. The lava rock upon which these grapes are grown lend an serious sense of place to this wine. This is a wait and see wine that will gain its maturity in 10+ years.

Wine was opaque purple. Very Italian nose. Sweet black fruit, vanilla, cedar, stone, leather, game and sour cherry. Taste was a great combo of earth, high acidity and a mix of red and black fruit, coupled with hints of game, leather, tobacco and graphite. Medium tannins. Over time, the fruit got stronger and was joined by truffles and cocoa. Soft for an aglianico. A beautiful, complex wine with enough acidity to match a huge range of dishes. Will be even better in a few years.
