Red Rhone Blend
Producer Notes

Chateau Beaucastel, run by the Perrin brothers, is regarded as one of the best estates of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. At 131 hectares of vineyards, it is also one of the largest estates in the region. It is atypical of the appellation in its production techniques. It is one of three estates to produce and vinify all 13 grapes permitted under the regulations of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Also, unlike most... More »

Ripe blackberry and licorice were readily apparent. My friend, with whom I was drinking, noticed a subtle hint of tobacco. I regret that I didn't have a decanter available at the time. However, I am delighted I have one more bottle, which I will not touch for another 5-6 years.

Clear, deep dark ruby. Clean. A medium nose of cooked cherries, plums, sweet spices, herbs, vanilla and a slight hint of smoke and leather. Some mint as well. Dry, high tannins (but quite fine and silky). Medium acidity, high intensity. More leathery notes on the palate. Big. Long sweet finish. Would be nicer if there is a bit more acidity. Outstanding quality. High priced. Should wait for another 5 years before drinking.

Beautiful dark ruby purple color on this full bodied powerful Beaucastel. Aromas of licorice, dark fruits and some meaty juices. Initially the tannins are strong but blend in nicely after a while, meat juices, licorice, tar, and black fruits. This one will be one for the ages - I can't wait to have the next one five years from now.

Really dense and locked up now, this is packed with dark fig, currant and blackberry fruit shrouded by layers of tar, hot stone, bittersweet licorice and espresso. The long, dense finish has a great tug of iron buried within it. Best from 2011 through 2030. 15,000 cases made. Young. Fruity. Will be excellent with age. Very tight. Tons of character.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
