Red Bordeaux Blend - Third Growth
Producer Notes

Believed to have once been home to an order of the Knights Templar in the 14th century, the Bordeaux chateau was acquired by Baron de Brane, of Mouton and Brane-Cantenac fame, before being turned over in the late 18th century to Napoleon's finance minister, who significantly expanded the vineyard. However, it wasn't until a century later that Lagrange wines achieved superior quality. The Cendoya... More »

Tasted the same vintage at the chateau back in 2009. The intervening years have given the wine an opulently smooth mouthfeel, a nice focus on black fruit and active but subtle tannins. I wish I had more than just one bottle!

This wine is in prime form right now. Black currants, blackberries and a hint of spice. The tannins have mellowed but the fruit still shows through. Wonderfully expressing itself.

Purple in color. A little dry with tacky stiff tannins. High solid acid and deep purple fruit. Clean and somewhat closed still with a long finish and some nice herb and tobacco. Silky. Will only get better with a couple more years.

The perennial 'value Chateau of St. Julien? has crept up in price a bit, but w/ the hike in tariff, there?s some exceptional quality to be found. Perhaps the finest 21st century Lagrange, almost flamboyantly earthy, as notions of wild flowers, sweet tobacco, roasted chestnuts, loam and chocolaty black currants scintillate my senses from just about every angle. This wine?s young complexity is astounding to me, as is its symmetry, length and purity. 2005 is another winner from Lagrange, just a flat out wonderful wine

Aromas of currants, berries, licorice and spice. Full-bodied and very velvety, with wonderful, high quality tannins. Long finish. Balanced and classy.

Currant, mineral, plum and light toasty oak follow through to a full body, with ultrasilky tannins and a long, caressing finish. This is thoroughly beautiful. Superbalanced and very pretty. Best after 2011.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
