After years of holding on to the Condado de HATHA it was time to drink. Unfortunately there was a dry cork to deal with necessitating breaking out the decanting device and the mesh filter/funnel (and PS I ALWAYS store my bottles laying down so not sure why this happened). Even still I could tell this was gonna be just fine since the nose was just fantastic, floral and effusive. Getting this into the glass finally we see dark, inky purpleness and it was clear that this wine is now at or near its peak. Blackberries, milk chocolate, cedar all in balance with a voluptuous mouth feel. While feeling big, it was refined, smooth and not punchy. Still has tannins hanging around but not at all gripping in a harsh way. This absolutely delivered and I'm glad I held this ~8 years. Drink now or soon.
Still not revealing much. There is a touch of fruit, and a fairly strong wall of tannin still present. Tastes like a Duero wine, but not sure how much beteer this will get. Letting my other bottles nap another 5 years to see if the tannins fade a bit more.
