Orin Swift Cellars is the realization of a dream that began while Dave Phinney was studying abroad at the University of Florence. When he returned to the States, he worked his first harvest for the Robert Mondavi Winery on the nightshift. The next year, he started Orin Swift Cellars with two tons of purchased Zinfandel grapes.

Ruby red in color with long legs. On the nose, it was pleasant with slight darker red fruit and modest spice. However, the finish lacked a balanced structure to bring the wine together. For the price, I can do a lot better.

From Brix26: "The 2005 Mercury Head marks the fifth vintage of Orin Swift's flagship Napa Valley red. The wine is a blend of 100% cabernet sauvignon from the Taplin Vineyard in St. Helena and the Morisoli Vineyard in Rutherford. This age worthy vintage marries complex structure with bright expressions of ripe fruit and judiciously applied oak. It can be enjoyed now or for the next ten to twelve years. Only 400 cases produced." Pair with spicy barbecue rib-eye steaks, grilled lamb kabobs with couscous and cornbread, or flourless chocolate cake with blueberry coulis
