A nice wine, but a bit shut down, will be better a few years on. Graphite, dark fruit, lots of structure and tannin. Needs decanting. Deep purple in the glass.

Great wine. Chewy tannins and superb finish. Not sure its worth the $125 retail but still great wine.

Inital nose of black cherry and lead pencil shavings gives way to a nice mouth coating of blackberry and plum. Complex with layer upon layer of well integrated tannins. Very smooth and refined with bright acidity and a wonderful finish that goes on and on for more than a minute. Terrific effort that should last for another 15 years. Decanted for 2 hours.

Grew on me over time. Had decanted for about 2 hours before drinking. In the glass, became smooth, silky and quite tasty. Less fruit foward then the Montelena 01 Estate (we had with it)but more refined.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
