Drunk with a 2002 premier cru Meursault and did not compare favorably at our table of 14. Maybe a matter of personal taste--it is definitely in the heavier California style, butr lacked finesse. I was expecting better.

How many times have I bombed this wine back in the past couple months? 5, 6, 7 times?not exactly sure, but believe it or not, this is the first cohesive note I was able to pen down (considering my motor-mouth, that?s quite the feat!). Perhaps the most uncompromising producer of American Chardonnay, from its hazy color to the visible, plump chunks of sediment so tasty that they?re good enough to eat (and sometimes I do!), Mark Aubert?s wines can challenge just about any winemaking pioneer in terms of 'hands off? winemaking in the cellar. Exuberant, but seamlessly integrated fruit w/ a texture that?s so inviting, the wine literally beckons you to another sip. Each flavor has a partner: the limes are spiced, the flowers golden, the guava is honeyed and the cr?me brulee is toasted to perfection. Aubert?s ability to synthesize such gossamer intensity amidst an ever present stony undertow is truly baffling to me, almost as if this wine reaches a nexus between the old world and the new.
