A little bit of funk on the nose, but decanting helped (approx. 1 hour). If you have a bottle, drink now.

I thought the same as the last few comments, but after 3 hours it finally cam around. It tasted ripe, hot from the alcohol, with just fruit as its leading positive attribute. It then settled in and gave us more of that leather, cherry, tobacco and earthy minerality that Sangiovese is known for. Color: deep red to garnet red edges Nose: Tobacco, leather, cherry, earth, oak, Palate: Ripe fruit up front fans out and mellows to reveal cherry, pomegranite and raspberry. Tannins are silky and the acidity could be better but overall not bad.

A year after my first bottle and the wine improved. Nice rich fruit but a bit of acidity gave it some backbone and worked very well with food. Another great Altamura wine.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
