Auction prices are based on actual auction results (inclusive of buyerÂ’s premiums) of 750ml bottle sizes only. As auction prices fluctuate from auction to auction and some wines have limited auction activity, the average auction price is updated twice a month and derived from a proprietary algorithm.

USA - Oregon - Willamette Valley

Red Pinot Noir
Producer Notes

Owners Ken and Grace Evenstad arrived in Oregon in 1989 to pursue their passion for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their winemaker Tony Rynders, who holds a Masters in Enology from UC Davis, crafts impeccably balanced wines primarily from three low-yielding estate properties: Jerusalem Hill, Evenstad and Winery Hill. Syrah is produced under their Rock Block label.

Issue 109

Tony Rynders has skillfully assembled my favorite recipe of components, namely Wadenswil, Pommard and Dijon 115 clones in this low yielding (3600 lb/acre) beauty. First offered at Vinfolio in the Spring, we have received an extended allocation to offer. I would remiss if I failed to mention it again. Tasted twice with consistent notes

A nose full of rich, butterscotch, cherry and cola aromas. The palate is dramatically formed with beautifully shaped tannins that undulate around the core of pliable cherry, cola, anise and herb.

Still young with plenty of tannins. Cherry, cola, a little earth. Yum!

Starting to fade already, with the bright fruit dimming. Heavy on the leather notes, with bold tannins and a puckery mouthfeel.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
