2004 Lascombes Bordeaux Blend - France - Bordeaux - Margaux - Red - Second Growth

Needs more time, aeration not enough.

Patience is a virtue, this beauty still needs a few more years.

Too young. Nice fruit notes, tobacco, green tannins, needs alot more time.

Clear deep brickish hues at the core with watery rim and long legs. Clean intense aromas of dark chocolate tobacco, and briary dark fruit. Dry intense palate of dried black berries, currants and dusty cedar. High acid and alcohol making for a dark and brooding expression of a Margaux a bit out of character for the region. I would wait in this one yet.

Comes across as very international-styled, with the dense fruit dominated by ripe blackberries. This still could use some time in bottle.

Tasted 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2005 Lascombes. 2004 was the least favored of the bunch. Appeared thin compared to the other vintages. Not a bad wine, but lacking the fullness of the others, especially the 2002.

Young

Irrespective of the Rolland controversy this Chateau has received recently (which estate hasn't!) and their oddly performing 2003 in the bottle, this 2004 is a powerhouse of a wine. Violet, BBQ, charcoal and campfire smoke scents soar from the glass, followed by a truckload of fruit in the palate. Black cherry, dark fruit and espresso roast notes are opulent and powerful. Tremendous effort, for any vintage! Drink 2009-2022.
