Rustic, brambly, extracted. Needed food to bring it around. Had it together with the 2008, which was fresher and higher acid.

Unbelievable concentration made this almost more like port than wine. The structure is there, but the flavors were muddy and unclear until a blood-like, iron-flavored finish. I decanted it for 3 hours, then let half a bottle sit for 48 hours on the counter, and it still was inaccessible.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
