As auction prices fluctuate from auction to auction and some wines have limited auction activity, the average auction price is updated twice a month and derived from a proprietary algorithm.

Producer Notes

Recognized as the undisputed leader of the new wave in Verona's winemaking, Romano Dal Forno only established his estate in the 1980s. The winery is located outside the so-called Zona Classica for Valpolicella, at Illasi. From 8 hectares of vineyard Dal Forno gets the best out of the Corvina and Rondinella varieties with small yields and rigorous selection during the harvesting.

Tasted On 10/13/2011

This wine exceeded any expectation I had. This is a very sophisticated wine in dire need of food and specifically a fatty piece of meat. Would also be a great pairing with hard cheeses. Black fruit dominates with a dense minerality at the core of the wine. Powerful tannins that soften a bit in the glass but has the balance that proves this wine will last another 10 years easily. Long finish. Could use some decanting. Stunning wine.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
